I saw "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" today. Like most cold war spy movies it does get confusing at times. Trying to keep up with who is on which side and who is alive and who is dead is enough to keep you concentrating. The refreshing thing about the British style of film is that it wasn't overly simplified and you were never sure who to trust. A Hollywood version would have made it too obvious who was good, bad, somewhere in between or a double agent. The inability to trust anyone was a key theme and Hollywood does not know how to do subtlety well enough to provoke that kind of reaction. Hollywood are too afraid to properly confuse people to make a point, in Hollywood movies the plot is made so obvious everyone can see what is coming next with a few unexpected twists. The paranoia of the era was captured quite well, I thought, and there wasn't anywhere near as much blood and guts as I anticipated. Definitely a movie worth watching.
This week is the mighty fun "get body clock adjusted back to normal human hours before uni goes back" week. This involves being out of bed by 7am and back in bed by 1030pm. My computers have taken up residence in the dining room to prevent accidental sleep deprivation due to pointless facebook/blogging/youtube. I must also attack the book list. The "recommended" texts can go jump because we all know they just put them on there because first years are suckers who think they're getting ahead by buying more books (who'd find a way to buy the Magna Carta if it was put on the list). Even of the "essential" texts, you know there will be at least one that never gets used.
It turns out that studying a health related degree with a professional outcome costs a lot more than a B.A. (try not to die of shock after reading that revelation). Donations will be accepted gladly if you wish to donate to the "Eliza needs stuff for uni" fund.
My exercise efforts were also slob-like this week. One Attack class and one fitness test doesn't exactly equate to 'regular exercise'. I think I hit a post fitness test lull.
Aims for this week:
-follow usual exercise regime
-get out of bed by 7am
-be back in bed by 10.30pm
-find a flamin' job
Special mention to my pal Leesa, whose Nanny died over the weekend. Grandparents are very special people and I'm so sorry for your loss. Rest in peace, Betty Irving.
