I've made a decision; I'm not going to post to this blog everyday anymore. I realise that I'm breaking my first blog based promise, but like many broken promises I didn't really know what I was in for when I made it.
Here is my reasoning. Firstly, the bulk of my day to day life just isn't that exciting and I don't want to keep blogging posts that are either boring or half-baked. Secondly, I want to make this site as reader friendly as possible and I don't want to throw more writing at people than they are willing to read. I don't think people want to be bombarded with my posts on facebook everyday, especially when my posts are not always as good as I'd like them to be.
I still want this blog to be a record of what I'm up to, I just won't be recording as much of the boring stuff!
From now on I will be posting a hand full of times per week and only posting writing that I've put a reasonable amount of thought into. It will create an element of surprise and should improve the overall quality of the reading experience.
If you have any constructive criticism, I'd love to hear it! Leave a comment and give me a piece of your mind, I'd really appreciate the feedback.
No criticism, no suggestions. But agreement, that blogging daily is very very hard to do. I find that my life has been competely taken over by it. Not that I don't have things to say, because I always do about food! But the amount of time it takes as well as trying to go a bit further into Wordpress and learn to use it better is just incredible. So don't feel badly, I think any number of us will let up before long!
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting, Caroline. Too much time blogging and not enough time living makes for boring blogs! It has started to eat into my time more than I'd like so I'm just taking my foot off the pedal for a while =)
DeleteHmmm, not sure what to say to this. I do know you will have blog fans who will be disappointed, but I too know the effort of this daily ritual. I also feel they will not be let down when you put more effort into the blogs you write, and so you will be forgiven. Your writing is already very good, so it will only get better, such a good thing for any writer, and for your readers too.I hope I can keep up with my (now two) daily blogs, but as you know one of these commitments is as much to myself to remind me of my days than anything else. The online kitchen, now with recipes seems to have one person going daily with me though, which is rather fun. And receiving daily recipes from Caroline is pretty good too! I find writing on a word document, with lots of blogs started is a really good way to go. It means you have material always in the back of your mind, and many chances to add to it, edit it and so on. Then on the days when you feel really blank, it is easy to just finish something off. I have a notebook, which is not just for memory, but allows me to start stories whenever I get an idea for one. Even if you only blog occasionally, I'd recommend this. I look forward to more blogs, whenever you have the time, ideas or the energy. xx
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit disappointed for breaking my pledge but I know it's for the best. I will definitely keep following your posts daily =) Thanks for your advice too, I will definitely start an "idea bank". I think I'll still post 3 or 4 times a week.
DeleteOh, and I AM GOING TO MISS your daily ones...
